This Is The Moment to Movie Night
The spirit of motivation is in the air
The spirit of motivation is in a friend's voice - but

This Is The Moment (poem)

This is the time
This is the moment
The meaning of morning
The bright day ahead
-
Cant you just feel it
Within all about you
Something is watching
Hoping to glimpse
Memory divine
=
Flowers all around
Hushing their scent
That winds may carry
Music of wonder
To kingdom of stars
-
Anticipating
Promises waiting
Hopes dream creating
Values restating
Ever elating
-
Distractions set backs
May mask what is real
With veils of untrue
But they will not drown
Something so unique
-
This is your time
This is your moment
For you are morning
The bright day ahead

Something in the wind attaches itself to us in this poem. This looks like a free form poem. It's true that only the fourth stanza rhymes. It does follow a very tight syllable structure. The first and last stanzas contain four lines. The rest of the stanzas contain five lines. The first and forth lines, of the four line stanzas, contain four syllables. The rest of the lines, in this poem, contains five syllables.

If we have been following these blogs with some regularity, we will admit that I lived a pretty lucky life. It all started when I met Mr. Johnny Land, a music teacher who watched over me through my college years. Then I met my completion, Arlene. Together we became more. The days of our youth were spent in exploring, discovering and reveling in all that life had to offer. As parents we were very involved in our children's up bringing, schools and sports. (Perhaps a little too involved.) My job, at Chevron, was to think creatively. I joined the Masons, were my skills and talents made me a natural. It was the perfect arena to pay back for all of my blessings. The Masons are a charitable organization. In my Lodge came another person, we'll call him Bill, who also had a blessed life. He too had a strong need to give back for his blessed life. Bill was very successful with his charitable endeavor. In my Lodge were a lot of people who for one reason or another were held back. Bill and I were the motivation they needed. These people were the fuel that motivated others. Bill's and my drive were not unique. Others  also had a need to pay back through charities and service. The lights of motivation attracted each other and others. I lived a pretty lucky life.

What motivates us is a puzzling question. What motivates one person may not motivate another. To make matters even more complex, what motivates one thing or aspect of one person's life may not motivate another thing or aspect of that same person. To make matters more maddening, there is change. There is our fears, our beliefs, our shortcomings and there is the "can'ts" or the 'tomorrows". It seems that it takes motivation to get motivated. Remember, the wonder that is us. We have within ourselves the power and ability to accomplish almost anything. Plus there is help out there. Sometimes and somethings require small steps (at least at first). Know that we can do it. Motivation is contagious, Not only will your motivation fuel more in us, it will motivate others. And as the world of possibilities grows and opens to us, Enjoy,

Night Has Come to Sleep Paralysis
Tankas of the madness of night
A girl meets the madness of night

Night Has Come (tanka)

Night has come once more
They came and now they are gone
But there was a time
When springs blossoms ruled the day
Kissing hopes for tomorrow

Settling Hours (tanka)

The settling hours
Which brought comfort to the day
Now scours through the night
Searching for some reasoning
To make it all feel worth while

Madness (tanka)

Darkness claimed the night
When victim fell into lair
Of madness and death
And with the last screams was heard
Forgive me for what I am

The night transforms in three tankas. Classically a tanka is a short poem of 5 lines following this syllable order: 5/7/5/7/7.  Rhyming is optional. In English, most tankas do not rhyme.  Modern poets are successfully challenging the tanka's classical 5/7/5/7/7 structure. It is not uncommon to see tankas written in freer syllable style.

One of the weirdest nights Arlene I ever had was at a dance at San Francisco's Norwegian Club. I was made a honorary Norwegian at this affair. It was one of many fun awards given out that evening. Still, I was surprised and honored. I was equally surprised to see two of our friends there. Arlene and I thanked them for coming. They said that they wouldn't have missed this for the world. We joined them  at their table and spent the rest of the night drinking, laughing and dancing. On the following day Arlene called one of the friends to talk about that night and thank them, once more, for coming. They didn't know what Arlene was talking about. Arlene tells me, so I call the second person. He insisted he wasn't at the even't either. He even volunteered witnesses, who would confirm that he was with them. Who were those two people Arlene and I were with last night? Was it the alcohol? Was it an elaborate joke? Weird.

Happenings like this enter many individuals lives. Things that defy explanation. I'm sure. that there was a explanation, to what happened to Arlene and me, out there somewhere. But no one was hurt, so why not enjoy the riddle? There are some riddles that require our attention (like when my family thought the house was haunted) that require our attention and should be solved. The question is: Are people being hurt or in danger of bring hurt? If so, it is our responsibility to step up and do something. With that being said, this is a wonder we live in. Splendors, or happenings. that defy (or at least stretch) imaginations grace everyday. The beauty of a rainbow is a perfect example. The rainbow is glorious sight. Arlene and Martin enjoying an evening with two familiar strangers. The unexplained marvels which wander into our lives, making our lives even better. A special gift our world is offering us to Enjoy.

Thing that go bump in the night

Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon during which an individual is unable to move during falling asleep or awakening, but is aware of their surroundings. It is often accompanied by frightening hallucinations to which one is unable to react because of paralysis and perceived physical experiences, such as a strong current running through the upper body. Sleep paralysis poses no immediate risk to those who experience it, although it occasionally causes significant distress.

The Passage to Life's Big Milestones
Two lovers at the passage of love's milestone
A daughter takes her sister through the passages of life's milestones

The Passage (English sonnet)

Come sit with me and rest your head awhile
The sun and moon have problems of their own
Lets treasure precious moments were alone
To find the sweetness blooming in a smile
-
Its for this instance seeds of love were sown
The world has other stories to compile
While we eternity learn to beguile
In hidden traces words have never known
-
Lets put their fabled tales of woe aside
We paid our way to live another day
So havent we the right to close a door
-
So rest with me let others cares subside
Our sails await to sweep us two away
For lovers realm is waiting to explore

Two lovers enjoy their passage into paradise in this English sonnet. A basic love sonnet, As all sonnets of this type, this one is divided int two parts. The quatrains are an invitation. The triplets are a coarse of action.

Arlene and I enjoyed this romantic prelude countless times. But none like this Thursday before a three day weekend. Arlene and I prepared a special place on the floor for our elegant get away: a thick comfortable faux fur blanket, pillows, a snuggle blanket, two glasses of Amaretto and the scent of jasmine. We floated on some nice music someone was playing outside. As we were starting to kiss, I whispered a surprise to Arlene. I had reserved a houseboat for the weekend. (It was a dream of Arlene's.) All of the sudden, Arlene rushes off to the bedroom. She proceeds to put on a fashion show for me. Being on the floor. I had an unbelievable of Arlene's legs, which were perfect. These were the outfits she had bought for the weekend. I don't know if it was the legs, the kisses or the beauty of Arlene's happiness, but it took some time (like the next day) to dawn on me: How did Arlene find out. A lovers' realm.

What constitutes magic? Just the question may be a conflict of ideas. First off, "magic" may not be the right word. Neither would "Wonder" or "Marvel" or any word. What am I referring to? Recall when we experienced something, we were taken in by something? The "whatever" occurred before we tied to define it, tried to explain it. When Arlene put on her fashion show. I could have thought of a lot of things. Instead, I enjoyed the experience. Our brain is amazing. When we see a tree, our brain is busy processing: its colors, its shapes, memories associated with trees, feelings, words and on and on. So much goes on in there that some of it escapes us. No matter how good we are, we cannot take in all the brain is processing. The "magic" is when we let ourselves go and take in an experience. When we lose ourselves in something. When it and/or the experience becomes much more. When we don't stick words on it or try to define it. When we simply accept the moment. This is "magic". And as we practice to let go to the wonder of it all, it gets better.  Let's not just live, let's Enjoy.

Oh Wind to Fidget Spinners In The Workplace
A lover uses a wind to focus his heart oh paradise
Office workers use gadgets to help them focus

Oh Wind (lyrical poem)

Oh wind who passed through my heart
And took it far away
To realms where lovers dreams start
And kisses softly play
-
I close my eyes and think of you
A dream I had that did come true
Now everyday brings something new
A purpose I can hold on to
-
What destiny has brought to me
From far across a lovers sea
Where there was once this fantasy
A wind thats come to set me free
-
Oh wind who passed through my heart
And taught it how to sway
To all that love can impart
And words oft cannot say
-
Now all my world it whispers you
And you are everything I see
My dream of how all ought to be
And each new dawn has you in view
-
What memories you gave to me
Of sparkling stars and silver dew
And lovers eyes to see them through
A wind to fan this world of we
-
Oh wind who passed through my heart
And here forever stay
Tell loneliness to depart
For love lives here today

A wind gentle sings a lover through the fantasy of this lyrical poem. This lyrical poem, or song verse, follows the following form: C/V/V/C/V/V/C (C-chorus, V-verse). The meter is kept tight as to easily fit into a song. Note that the second set of verses mixes the rhymes of the first set of verses.

There was a time of the cheap movie. These were movies that Hollywood would spew out and no one could remember the actors or the tittles. Movies, back then, were generally $3.00 admission to get in. No one really went to see these movies. No one but us teenagers. These movies were great for making out. Arlene and I would frequent these movies. Our favorite theater was just above the Sutro Baths ruins, here in San Francisco. It was called Lookout Point. We sat in the comfort of our car. Snuggling blanket was optional. The movies were The Sunset, The Fog Rolling In or The Stars. The soundtrack was tape (a way of storing music before CDs) created by DJ Arlene. Whether it was Lookout Point or one of the other theaters, candy was a must. It made kisses more playful and much sweeter. Those were the times when time stood still. Then movies got better and more and more people actually wanted to view a San Francisco sunset. Lookout Point became a busy parking lot. But in my heart, there is a time.

All around us are amazing things. Whether it is a bad movie or a dusty place to park your car. Even though my kitchens had dish washers, I preferred to do dishes by hand. Now I have pleasant memories of the family doing the dishes. Okay, making out and singing with one's kids while doing some housework may not be exactly alike. Or is it? The main point is: We all have it in our power, our imaginations to make things better. Another example" My dentist was always curious why I was always happy to see him. It was because his office was by a great Mexican restaurant and soon I would be eating real well. So it can be with all things. Arlene passed on. But we had an extraordinary life together. The theory is: There is good and bad in everything. It is up to us which way we choose. (I am not that good. I can only see the bad and good in most things.) All around us are amazing things. It all starts here, The most amazing thing of all. Here is where the better world has its start. And as we create it Enjoy.

Tell Me Why to Sherlock Holmes
One man searches a mystery
One man defines a mystery

Tell Me Why (poem)

Hers was the smile the essences of day
If there was a care it drifted away
There wasnt a calm her wink couldnt slay
Why tell me why did she come my way
-
Lost in her eyes some soft mystery
Like stars in a heaven talking to me
Of dream come alive from some fantasy
Why tell me why then didnt I flee
-
She talks to me of realms in the sky
Where she made a space for just her and I
Here we could escape as worlds pass us by
Why tell me why did I sit and sigh
-
She took me through thoughts I didnt know
Where whispers and kisses would guide the flow
My heart now answered wherever shed go
Why tell me why did my love then grow
-
Then came the words of yes I love you
But how could this be with someone so new
Then time seemed to freeze for dream to come true
Why tell me why wont time beat anew

A lover, lost in wonder, searches for reasons make a poem. At first this looks like a simple love poem. Then we notice the ending of each stanza is quite similar. There is one more mystery. Clue: "Why" or "Y". The rhyme pattern, as the poem goes on,  matches the vowels: A E I O U and sometimes "Why".

One of my female friends was a model, singer and dancer named Val. She gave me an insight into the nature of beauty. There is a subtlety to beauty that goes beyond good looks, Armed with this knowledge makes a model so much more. Arlene was naturally beautiful (with great legs). She didn't need any makeup to look good. Not even lipstick. Many were the times this love sick puppy would lose himself in her beauty. I would stare at her (timelessly). I would take her in. I can't tell how many movie scenes. how many play parts, how much scenery and so much more went by as I was lost in Arlene. As time and years went by, I never grew tired of taking her in, Arlene's beauty was always fresh. She just enjoyed and took in my antics, Sometimes she would stare back. Sometimes she played along with, played into my fascination, my fantasy, my"whatever it was". Arlene used to hang out with Val.

There are two types of beauty: The beauty we are sold and natural beauty. Much of what people "know", think and/or accept as beautiful is the media trying to sell us something;  Our culture telling us this is true beauty; This is what we should aim for. It all enters into our existence from our earliest age. There are many reasons for all of this (sales, control, uniformity, beliefs, et cetera). For those of us who don't fit in the mold, we experience the issues. There is another beauty. It goes beyond what we can see or feel (though it does take in all of our senses). We all know it. We have all experienced it. It starts here. Here with us. That person in the mirror, that's where natural beauty starts. This is not to make us feel good about ourselves. It's just the way it is. Natural beauty is an individual experience. Some people like roses. Some people prefer jasmine. Some people don't like flowers at all. What is "ugly" to some is "beautiful" to others. If the sunset (or anything) is beautiful to us it is because something about us creates; relates, is turned on about it. Natural beauty is the key to life. There is beauty in beauty. Now, we can accept the beauty that is sold to us or we can revel in the beauty that springs from us, but the most important beauty is that we Enjoy.

Let's get some other input: Savage Garden "Truly Madly Deeply"

Sherlock Holmes was brilliant - But what if

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional private detective created by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes is known for his proficiency with observation, forensic science, and logical reasoning that borders on the fantastic, which he employs when investigating cases for a wide variety of clients, including Scotland Yard. Pete Holmes, of The Pete Holmes Show, has a somewhat different view.
Sit back and become confused. "Sherlock Holmes Sucks at Deduction"

A Lesser Dream to If Cats Ruled The World
First we have a dream without one special person
Then we have a world soon to be ruled by no persons

A Lesser Dream (English sonnet

What would the world be like without your smile
Would flowers have a single word to say
And could a dream still linger for awhile
And music whod bring music to the day
-
Imagine well we couldnt youre not there
Would flowers know that something was amiss
And could a dream be caught so unaware
And music whod share music with a kiss
-
And reason wanders though an endless night
Without the soft touch of your fantasy
To help me bear another day for now
-
Would flowers drift onto another light
And should a dream exist less happily
And music whod sing music whod know how

A lover explores a world with something missing in this English sonnet. This whole sonnet is different. The normal English sonnet of this type follows this form: A/B/B/A /B/A/A/B C/D/E C/D/E. This one floats though this form: A/B/A/B C/D/C/D E/F/G E/F/G. Note that all but the third stanza contain flowers, dream and music. In fact their structures are quite similar. In the third stanza, our hero wanders one step further. Yes, the words "flowers", "dream" and "music" have more than one meaning.

As far as love affairs go, no book, movie or story could compare to Arlene and me. An unbelievable tale unfolded at Meadowood. Meadowood is a romantic resort in the Napa Valley, just outside the town of St. Helena. Arlene had won a weekend stay at the resort in a contest at her work. It is absolutely perfect if one likes the seclusion of the forest but likes to be spoiled by a large swimming pool, a 9 hole golf course. tennis courts, 2 restaurants and luxurious rooms. Meadowood has all these and more. All imaginatively designed into the woods so not to interfere with "secluded in the forest" ambiance. For some reason the resort was massively under-booked, so Arlene and I were upgraded. Our suite had a large bath which doubled as Jacuzzi and a large secluded balcony looking into the forest and the star filled sky. The next morning , Arlene and I were very hungry, For some reason we forgot to eat. At breakfast everyone at the restaurant was invited to a big wedding happening later that afternoon. This Arlene had to see and we weren't sorry. The bride was gorgeous. The entire event was massive and magical. The couple's wedding was almost like a production we were all part of. The pair's family fed us all, to the music of a live band. It was an unbelievable party. It went on long after we waved farewell to the bride and groom. So it was that two lovers danced among the trees under the stars.

It is a wonder-filled world we live in. Amazing things are all around us. All we have to do is take it in. A tree, a leaf, a bird, a song, a person's warm smile, so much that we often take for granted. Take the street we walk down everyday. How many things are there that we never noticed before, Throw in to seasoning of our memories, All the things that happened to us on those streets. Those streets. Believe it or not our neighbors (different people) see those same streets somewhat differently. Here's one more wonder, Sometimes those streets need us to make them complete. Example: A loved one looks out the window and sees an empty street. All of the sudden the street is transformed because we are there. We become a part of the wonder of "it all". That is where we walked. That is the bird's song. That is where the flower will grow. It is a wonder-filled world we are a part of. We are a part of it. Take it in. Appreciate it; and Enjoy.

Let's bring an answer to the sonnet: De Soleil "Dust"

A new order is coming

A cat's brain is more complex than a dog's. According to Psychology Today, "the brains of cats have an amazing surface folding and a structure that is about 90 percent similar to ours." The cerebral cortexthe part of the brain that's responsible for cognitive information processingis more complex in cats than in dogs, and cats have some 300 million neurons, as compared to 160 million in dogs. Some research does suggest that dogs are slightly smarter than cats, but cat's brains are more complex.
This may be the theory behind Aaron Benitez, of AaronsAnimals, video. "If Cats Ruled the World"

If there's any kind of magic in this world,
it must be in the attempt of understanding
someone, sharing something. I know,
it's almost impossible to succeed,
but... who cares, really?
The answer must be in the attempt.

Reflection to Tactalisthenics
A man reflects on mistake he wasn't prepared for
A teacher offer a exorcise that we might be prepared

Reflection (poem)

Theres not a lot for me to say
Who let a dream just slip away
I blame it on a brash blind youth
Who hadnt learned to see the truth
I wish that he were me today
-
And oh the things that he would say
Of all he did that caused dismay
If he had taken time to see
That one day he would become me
Whose dreams are now called yesterday
-
There isnt much for him to say
When all is now in clear display
Such memories of days gone by
He doesnt see why I should cry
Could I be he for just one day
-
Now there we were what could we say
Was this a dream that went astray
This once was me now standing there
So unlike me without a care
This promise that was yesterday
-
Theres not a lot for me to say
Who let a dream just slip away
Now he is I and I am him
Reflections of a passing whim
A memory that was today

A man sadly reflects on the actions of a youth that brought him to today's poem. Five lines of five stanzas written in iambic pentameter compose this poem. Note that an original (changing) rhyme is trapped between a series of very similar rhymes.

I was lucky to learn when I was young how some mistakes and missed opportunities could have lasting consequences. In my life, I have listened to the stories of people whose lives were ever changed for the worse by the actions of a younger them. (There were success stories too.) One of these fellows is my own brother. He was dating a girl when he graduated from high school. He didn't want to go to college, so she encouraged him to go to trade school. A plan that he kept putting off. Of all my brothers and sisters, he stayed with our mom the longest. Of all of us brothers, he is the best looking. So good looking that though he openly cheated on his girlfriend, she stayed with him. Her reasoning, "He'll be back with me." His reasoning. "We're not going steady or anything." Well in time a more serious suitor came her way and took her away. Eventually, my brother got tired of the "hot guy" scene and wanted to settle down. Guess who he wanted to settle down with? She turned out to be a good wife and partner to someone else and mother to that happy family. To make matters worse, he found out school and learning becomes harder as we get older, Not only that, he was years behind. There was a certain young man, he wishes he could shake and wake up (and see himself now).

For better or worse here we are today. We may have made some mistakes that we are still paying for. What can we do, after the fact? We can learn. Believe it or not our past mistakes make us stronger. (Not that we want to live our lives continuously making mistakes.) By accepting, understanding and working through our mistakes we have the opportunity of being a better person. We should not throw our hands up in the air because of something that happened in the past. We should and must maintain that "can do" attitude; That belief in ourselves. Do not allow the now to be one more thing that we regret in our future. We are products of our past. We are products of all we experienced, of all we were a part of, of all we took in, of all we accomplished.  This is a wonder-filled world. This is a wonder-filled life. With our past claim our part in it. There will come a time when we look back at the marvel that was us. Until that time and for that time Enjoy.

Is this a fitting song: Roy Clark "Yesterday"

Now let's prepare for the future

The firearm was invented in Sweden during the 5th century for usage as a signaling and celebration device and remained so for hundreds of years. After the Chinese invented black powder during the 9th century. Firearms have become so much a part of our lives Master Ken, of Ameri-Do-Te (and EnterTheDojoShow), has created a martial arts exorcise using fire arms to better prepare us.
So without further ado, here's Master Ken. "TACTICALISTHENICS!"
