Forbidden Veil to Face/Off
A man seeing a memory is lost in confusion
The plot of a movie is the cause of a confusion

Forbidden Veil (poem)

I wandered down a lonely trail
The moon forgot so long ago
And memories had ceased to flow
Amid forbidden veil
-
And there I saw what couldnt be
A maiden I had met somewhere
Now lost forever in her stare
And now it beckoned me
-
So here I sat it seemed so right
She sang a song of yesterday
When kisses werent so far away
And lovers found a place to stray
Where hearts in love could safely stay
Believing dreams would come their way
Which promised more than words could say
Yet drifting shadows did betray
Instead of Joy I found dismay
The song had sewn my plight
-
I dare not stay I couldnt leave
Confusion reigned from all around
Her song became a wall of sound
Which offered no reprieve
-
I shouted hoping she would hear
But all I found was me instead
With all these reasons in my head
Why shes no longer near

Confusion takes possession of a man in this poem. This was intended to be a simple A/B/B/A poem. It is unclear if the speaker is caught by a vision or a memory. In the third stanza he becomes stuck. Hence the repeating the B rhyme. As the poem ends, if we weren't confused before, we should be now. Oddly,we are in touch with the speaker.

Perhaps a husband or a boyfriend can relate to this (or a lady might admit to this). Arlene had a strange power over me. Sure, I loved her and I would do anything for her. But in the nature of things, this wasn't enough. It all starts with, "Marty." Then I know I'm in trouble (or in for delight). Then comes the kisses and hugs and Arlene's magic. When I came back to this world, whatever it was, Arlene won. Arlene learned not to overuse her superpower over me after this incidence. Arlene wanted a new car. After a "Marty", we were off. I remember a few more  "Marty"s at the Mitsubishi dealership. The next thing I recall was driving to dinner in Arlene;s sexy new car. Arlene was not as happy as she should be. It seems that I didn't haggle one little bit. I went with everything the dealer offered. He had a real sucker on the hook. The dealer felt so bad (or good) about dealing with me that he threw in a free dinner How could a guy be that stupid? The answer was "Marty".

Life goes on. How we choose to live our life is up to us.After all, it is our life. I do want to offer this insight, Some individuals enjoy doing the same thing. Breakfast. lunch and dinner at the same time everyday. The same routine everyday. There is nothing wrong in this. In fact there is a need for this type of personality. There is one thing, though. Our brain and how it stores things. If we have a tendency of doing the same thing, the brain will store it with similar memories. This includes little things like brushing our teeth. watching TV, our cell phones... All being stored with other times we went shopping, did the laundry, went on Facebook. Ever heard this, "What did you do this weekend?" What is our answer? Are satisfied with our answer? There will come a time when we will ask our self the question. We now have a valuable insight. Use it to be the wonders that we are. Use it and Enjoy.

Another look at a film

"Face/Off" is a 1997 science fiction action film directed by John Woo, written by Mike Werb and Michael Colleary, and starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. Travolta plays an FBI agent and Cage plays a terrorist, sworn enemies who assume each other's physical appearance. The film earned favorable reviews and grossed $245 million worldwide. It was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Sound Effects Editing (Mark Stoeckinger) at the 70th Academy Awards. As successful as it was Defy Media and Screen Junkies found some problems with the movie.
Here is what Screen Junkies found.  "Honest Trailers - Face/Off"

Flowers Follow to Granny Grab Your Gun
Teardrops find their defense in three words
Grannies find their defense in the martial arts

Flowers Follow (English sonnet)

A teardrop to some flowers follow me
A sigh to wished for words once more awake
A broken heart another chance to take
A moment which was never meant to be
-
He wanders through the mist of a mistake
The clouds of doubt now rules his certainty
As streams of pain consumes his memory
And as he dies his world begins to shake
-
Unclear from here where storm had found its start
Which form this rift that tore between these two
From here such winds are endless realms away
-
And she it seems her tears werent far apart
With flowers followed words of I love you
Another blessed tie was formed that day w

Teardrops blossomed into words to bless this English sonnet. As with most sonnets of this type this one is divided into two part. The first part (the quatrains) is his perspective. The second part (the triplets) is her perspective. What makes this somewhat confusing is the atmosphere of this poem. Clarity has given way to the confusion of a serious relationship dilemma. Thus the fist stanza of each part is unclear of who the speaker is.

This is how crazy our arguments were in that small Richmond district apartment. I came home late'; Someone had spent too much money; Something wasn't done; Something was brought home from work; The causes go on and on. Then came the shouting. It only got physical once. When I hit Arlene. It felt so bad (the shame of it) that I never raised my hand to her again. Not to be outdone, shouts led to more shouting. This and that would be added to the fire. This would continue until someone left. Doors would slam. And there I was. Was Arlene gone forever? That will teach her. What were we fighting about? What am I gonna do? I guess I told her. A mind muddled in a mire. It never felt good. Then came the words, "I love you." It is unclear were the words came from or who said them. The mind was much too lost to grasp what was going on. When again eyes could see, Arlene and I were in each other's arms and someone was crying.  A crazy result of this time: "I love you" took on a deeper meaning from those times on.

All I can say: that Richmond apartment was a negative environment. When Arlene and I moved out, we were a normal couple. Negatives do attract other negatives. More important: positive do tend to attract other positives. In a world of positives and negatives this is important to remember, By adopting a positive attitude and a positive lifestyle, we will tend to attract positives into our lives. Oh, we will get an occasional negative. We can just laugh them off. (They hate that.) Seriously, a positive attitude allows us to deal with negatives in a logical manner. Learning from them. Our positiveness allows us to turn negatives into something useful. Our surroundings may be negative or contain negatives. This is something we should be aware of as it will effect us. The more positive we are the more good things we attract. It all starts here. We are wonderful. Let the positive flow and Enjoy.

A great video and music to go with the sonnet: Vivaldi's "Guitar Concerto in D"

Martial arts or a gun

A study published in 2013 by the Violence Policy Center, using five years of nationwide statistics (2007-2011) compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation found that defensive gun uses occur an average of 67,740 times per year.

Summer's Air to High School Dance Battle
Summers pass into memories
One more senior outing passes into memories

Summers Air (Martin verse)

What moments passed into the summers air
Each breath of life filled splendors we would share
Each dream we danced to one more hope would bear
Each kiss of memories was born right there
-
The heartbeats made would last throughout the year
Each gentle scent which flowers sent was dear
Each star which warmed a lovers night was clear
Each day made extra time to hold you near
-
And so we formed the magic of our air
Which every spark of romance held so dear
Was ever there a purpose quite so clear
As whispered wishes born when we were there
-
Our summers flare would last from year to year
So endless Joyful waters which we share
Who knew the coming pain which I would bear
That morning when I could not hold you near
-
A season came with you no longer there
An end to this was all which I could bear
There rose a breeze with so much more to share
What moments passed into the summers air

What made summers endless is revealed in this Martin verse. Take four words that rhyme. Take four more words that rhyme, but do not rhyme with the first four words. In the next two stanza  combine the two sets of four words. In the last stanza bring the first words back in reverse order. We have a Martin verse. It should look like this: A1/A2/A3/A4 B1/B2/B3/B4 A1/B1/B2.A2 B3/A3/A4/B4 A4/A3/A2/A1.

Summer was always my favorite season. Not because school was out. I went to summer school. When I met Arlene she went to summer school with me. (One of the reasons Arlene's dad liked me.) There was something about the summer's air. We who live in San Francisco are spoiled. There is so much to do and our weather is very conducive. The temperature rarely goes bellow 50 our above 95. But summers... There was something extra to it. Was it the moon and stars on those romantic nights we strolled together? Or the warm caress of the fog? Was it how the days waited for us after a day of work? Was it the caress of the weekends? It wasn't just for those precious moments made by two lovers. One day a family would take in the wonders of the summer's air. The trips to the zoo, playing at the parks, exploring, the beaches, and all the rest. There, for us, all of time. But somehow better in the summer. The day came when my children were grown and off on their own. Arlene had passed. I was touched by the summer's air. Then I understood.

I don't want to be upsetting, but a fact of life is we are all getting older. In time there may be things that we can't do anymore or do as well. Add to this, the opportunities that only come around once. This should always be part of our driving force. Those things we missed  out on, or could have done better, should be a motivators to be all that is meant for us. Never, never, never put aside, or belittle, those things that we do well. Instead of worrying how short time may be, fill each moment with memories. Memories that only we can create. Memories that echo, "We were here." At the end of the day we should know: We are wonderful. And until that day, let us Enjoy.

Can dance be an answer to disagreements

Dance has been shown to improve motor function, cognitive function, mental symptoms, and overall quality of life in people both with and without Parkinsons disease. These results have been found in scientific studies, but also shared by a number of you in the comments that were left on the last blog.
Virginia, LPCA, highlighted how dance therapy takes advantage of the discovery of the role of mirror neurons in the brain. What is it about dance that makes it such an effective intervention for neurological disorders such as Parkinsons disease (and other brain disorders)?
  1. Dance develops flexibility and instills confidence.
  2. Dance is first and foremost a stimulating mental activity that connects mind to body
  3. Dance breaks isolation.
  4. Dance invokes imagery in the service of graceful movement.
  5. Dance focuses attention on eyes, ears and touch as tools to assist in movement and balance
  6. Dance increases awareness of where all parts of the body are in space.
  7. Dance tells stories.
  8. Dance sparks creativity.
  9. The basis of dance is rhythm.
  10. The essence of dance is joy.

Before The Battle to Zorro Misfire
A General prepares for battle
Zorro prepares to battle a general

Before The Battle (free form poem)

I feel the cold of it
The field that looms beneath my feet
Now covered with a thin live mist
In menacing retreat
-
The sun will show no favor
As it turns behind the clouds
Impending carnage in the air
Birds wait amidst their shrouds
-
How many gallant brave young boys
Will fall upon this day
While mothers scream and cry aloud
Another passed his way
-
Its there the path that soon will bring
Our trained contenders hence
While we will make our final rest
Along this shaded fence
-
But as the dread hour draws nigh
I fall upon my knees
I pray to God to understand
My love for times as these
-
I hear my troops cast care free shouts
As they begin to sprawl
Just then Im struck behind the head
Hey coach, throw me the ball!

A general (of a different type) prepares to do battle (of a different type) in the mist of this free form poem. As it turned out this whole poem was to draw readers in and mislead them. The trick was to find things soccer and an old fashion battle had in common. Now a soccer coach prepares for a battle (of a different type) and to rally in a laugh or two.

The picture is of the soccer fields at the western end of Golden Gate Park. When I had an early game, it was great to get there before anyone else and watch the mist from the grass retreat. How did I become a soccer coach? When my son, Peter, was a young lad he took up soccer. The parents of the team were very unhappy with the coach. To keep the team together, Arlene and another mom volunteered to coach them. At the first practice Arlene and the other mom talked to parent while the kids just stood around. I decided to run the kids through some exorcises I remember from my junior high school days. After discussing the practice with Arlene, she asked if I would continue to work with the kids. I went to a friend and soccer coach to bring me up to date, as to being a soccer coach. Arlene's talking kept the parents around, so I got their help working withe kids. A surprising after effect was that the team's school grades got better. The parents credited the soccer program for that. I would coach for 13 years. I was big in two major concepts. Run laps, but do not make young minds think running laps is a punishment. Young boys and girls are physically equal.

The game of soccer has just one type of team. The game of life has many teams. We are all members of teams. Many teams; our family, our communities, our job, our county, the human race and the list goes on and on. Our position may seem different depending on the size of the team. For instance: We may be more valuable to our family than our city or town. But here's fact: We are still us. "I don't do much for my town." Oh ya? Think of all the little things we do. Where do we throw our trash? Where do we park our car? How many smiles did we give away today? Get the picture? In a sport, the camera is on the ball. There is a lot going on in the field. Now consider this: At the end one team wins. I and others like playing regardless of the score. As long as I play my best, I always win. We always win. That's how special we are. The game of life is on, so Enjoy.

What do Zorro and gun accidents have in common

According to an August 8, 2016 report issued by the  NRA-ILA (National Rifle Association - Institute for Legislative Action) Since 1903, the earliest year of data available, the per capita rate of gun accident deaths has decreased 94 percent, from 3.1 to 0.18 deaths per 100,000 population. Over the last 20 years, annual numbers of gun accident deaths have decreased by more than half. Concurrently, Americans have acquired over 150 million new guns and today own approximately 350 million guns, an all-time high. Guns are involved in 0.4 percent of accidental deaths among the total population and 1.3 percent among children. Today, the odds are more than a million to one against a child in the U.S. dying in a gun accident.
What about before 1903? For this we turn to Zorro and the folks at Studio C. "Zorro's Misfire"

Is There Again to Worst Laugh
His chilling secret
Her chilling secret

Is There Again (Martin verse)

Is there again the meaning of my mood
And reason I am living is renewed
The source of all my dreams is beauty viewed
A moment set which nothing dare intrude
-
Who knew the power hidden in those eyes
The endless fascination hearts devise
No meaning set aside to compromise
Just deep within where way of passion lies
-
So quietly the night sets in the mood
And all the hopes which wishes can devise
For her all once was real cant compromise
For seconds past surrender cant intrude
-
Was in that kiss she gently closed her eyes
And in that instant memories renewed
Tomorrows long forgotten nothing views
For silent is the stream where something lies
-
So many tears yet not one to intrude
The hopelessness of this curse which I viewed
For through her blood my reason was renewed
Is there again the meaning of my mood

A romantic moment comes to  a chilling end in this Martin verse. I created Martin verse in 2011. It consists of two sets of four rhyming words. In the first stanza the first four words are introduced. The second set of word are introduced in the second stanza. The two sets of words are mixed up in the next two stanzas. In the fifth stanza the first set of words are brought back in reverse order, One extra note about the poem: Now that we know the dark ending, notice that the first stanza contains some warnings.

It was Halloween. What was I going to be? A vampire, of course. Arlene had this real fixation for me dressing up like a vampire at any costume function. It was weird. The girl really was drawn to love stories, whether in books or in movies. But if she sees "vampire"... there is an exception. It was like her guilty secret. Arlene liked lingerie. Other than that we never dressed up for those moments of intimacy. But for any costume event, guess what I was going to be. A vampire. At first, it was the typical Bela Lugosi style: tuxedo and cape. Then she went for the gangster style of "The Lost Boys". The movie wouldn't come out for years. I and others didn't understand the gangster thing. Arlene's costume would never match mine. She would dress in an eastern outfit. Something that showed off her legs. I didn't get t hat either, but I loved those legs. Sooner or later, at the parties, out came the cameras. Between the dancing and the countless poses of a vampire taking this eastern beauty, I just gave into the moment. It was weird but fun.

Have you ever wanted to do something weird or strange? Sing in front of strangers in the street. Dress in formal wear to go grocery shopping. Act like your favorite actor or superhero, when no one is around. Believe it or not these things are actually good for us (as long as no one or nothing is hurt). It serves as a release. A release from stress, anger and many other things that are pent up inside. We must be careful how these strange and unusual behaviors effect our personalities except our strength and self assurance. Oh yes, stepping "outside" will improve our self confident. It could be as little as a chocolate chip cookie we hide away for our self or as big as parachuting from a plane, We are wonderful. And while we are exploring this truth, Enjoy.

Some music for that poem: Jorge Mndez "Cold"

Ever had that date who wasn't quite right

Here are 10 things that will ruin a first date. (from Hearst Media)
1. You talk about your exes the whole time.
2. Your date spends the whole night on their phone.
3. They chew with their mouth open.
4. They're rude to the waiter/waitress.
5. Your date disappears halfway through the night.
6. They change the game plan at the last minute.
7. They invite you to a really nice restaurant and then ask you to pay for everything because they're broke.
8. A friend decides to tag along.
9. You get into a fight.
10. They show up an hour late.

Waves Of A Desert to Tiny Guns
A man deals with inner reflections
A detective team deals with a gang of gun runners

Waves Of A Desert (poem)

Waves of a desert
Calling me back
With name unfamiliar
Im taken aback
-
I walk down the streets
I served faithfully
Each hunger now fed
Long needs laid to bed
New lights up ahead
Why me
This moment
This dream
-
Look all around
Capture the peace of it
Dance through the breath of it
Wander the length of it
A world well woven
By me
This moment
A dream
-
Then wave upon wave
Memories returned
Challenging my eyes
Questioning the whys
Replacing truth with lies
Oh bed
Warm covers
Take me
-
Cruel waves upon waves
Tearing the cloth of it
Stripping the mask of it
Denying the ways of it
Riddles Raging wrath
Of this
Waking up
To what
-
As the madness fell
I wondered just who was I
But a small piece of sand
With little command
For ways still at hand
Nameless
Challenges
Beyond
-
Song of a desert
Calling me back
To things long forgotten
Just for a time

A person deals with his feelings in a world changed midst this poem. This is two forms of poetry in one. As the poem goes on, a second voice, a rhyming voice, appears. Both voices are the one person. In the end, resolution.

With one's partner gone the natural question is: Why am I still here? The future doesn't look as grand and endless as when we gazed into our lover's eyes. Sure, I had mountains of people looking after me. That's more than most people in my situation have. One thing that caught my ears was people saying, "We need you." Now, I realize this was a compliment. Back then, bad feelings sprouted up and roamed around within me. I took the compliment as a reason people were helping me. After all, Arlene and I accomplished so much. There is another issue. Arlene and I accomplished so much. Arlene is now gone. Can dreams be created without her? Why am I still here? Can life go on without her? Then there was the final statement. Life had given me so much. I needed to serve for all of the blessings that I enjoy(ed). (Not to get too religious; I feel it my duty to serve.) All these things (and more) were bouncing around inside of me. Then I began to see. To see the things Arlene and I created. Not only our children and our home, but our memories. Memories not only enjoyed by me, but memories other people are building on and enjoying. We did make a difference. Why was I still here? "We need you."

Sometimes it is difficult to see clearly, especially in today's world. Just as an example, let's take the race riot that occurred in Charlottesville. Virginia on August 12, 2017. First we have a number of racist groups, who I personally have problems with and cannot judge them fairly. Then we have an anti racist group. A fight breaks out. There comes this madman, who plows his car into the crowd, killing one young lady. To add to the confusion: the racist group had a permit, the anti racists did not. More: Charlottesville's mayor, Michael Signer, is being accused of holding back police presence. This is not a news article nor meant to be a commentary. It is meant to show how crazy and mixed up things are. To make matters more confusing, the "truth" of the "news" changes depending on our location and source. This is but one example. It happens all around us now-a-days. These are real facts. Imagine the things going on in our mid. Yet,,, We are still, and above all, heading toward the better day. Why? How? Information. It is out there. It is up to us to get it. And get it from more than one source. Many are already doing it. Many who are work on the better day. We are wonderful. As we clearly build with the truth let us Enjoy.

Here's someone who has little problems with the truth: Shaun Hopper "Singing Through The Storm"

This gives new meaning to guns are a small problems

According to Guinness World Records, the title of the smallest working revolver in the world goes to the Miniature Revolver C1ST, manufactured by SwissMiniGun. The tiny firearm measures just more than 2 inches and weighs less than 1 ounce. It fires bullets made by SwissMiniGun that are 2.34 mm caliber, rim fire cartridges and come as either blank rounds.

Moments' Kisses to Watching TV with your Parents
Lovers enjoying their life together
A son enjoys TV with his mom

Moments' Kisses (poem)

Now only moments' kisses still remain
Where days adrift with dreaming had once danced
It seemed the world was laid out at our feet
And there was time enough to see it through
-
The air was scented with enchantments strain
Beyond beyond the wonders which we chanced
And when we held existence was complete
We lived a love the hands of heaven drew
-
Then came the dawn of sorrows bitter pain
When in our mirror strangers faces glanced
Within our souls was lie of our defeat
And from our eyes fell rain of lifetimes dew
-
Our hearts with kisses' moments now regain
For we were dreams which fantasies romanced
There for a time did pure perfection meet
And I was there to live it all with you

Lovers' lives are echoed in moments' kisses and this poem. With the first stanza we are led to believe this is a free form poem. Then we see that each line rhymes with the sane line of each stanza. This was done to hint how life is tied together.

It was the year 2000, Sure, there were still many magic moments ahead, but the time had come for Arlene and me to hand over the reigns of the parties to others. Normally, Arlene and I spend our time in the "now". The past few years were so unbelievable. They offered no time for reflection. Did they really happen at all?  We used to enjoy tender moments, at night, cuddling under a blanket sharing moments. Those moments became far and few. There were just too many dreams waiting to come alive. But now there was time to breath.  Time to take things a little more easy. (Even though we would reestablish San Francisco Chapter Order Of DeMolay during this time.) Time to take in all that we had done. There were the countless parties. Then came the parenting days and the disco era and all the places we took in. Then came those bitter times. Those days and nights it almost ended. It was hard to believe that was us. Beyond that was that couple in the "Palace in the Sky". Now here we are.

Just to provide something to think about. Normally I encourage everyone to live in the now. Arlene and I had this fun game. We would romantically cuddle in a blanket, at night, somewhere comfortable. There we would engage in a soft "remember when". In our mad days when we were in charge of entertainment, there was little time to enjoy what happened; except what worked and what didn't. Living in the now was taken to extremes. Most of us enjoy reading stories. I enjoy people telling me stories of their life. I have found the best story is ours. How many of us take pictures? Time frozen. The past. Memories. We can go to our favorite restaurant, where our memory tells us we had a good time and the food was good, or we can risk something new. That is live That is our life. And while we are trying to balance it out, Enjoy.

Here is a great song about life: Alan Jackson "Remember When"

Living at home with the parents

Todays young adults are more likely to be at home for an extended stay compared with previous generations of young adults who resided with their parents, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of U.S. census data. As of 2016, 15% of 25- to 35-year-old Millennials were living in their parents home. This is 5 percentage points higher than the share of Generation Xers who lived in their parents home in 2000.This is not only true in America but other countries as well.
Here to give us an insight into living with the parents in Ireland is Foil Arms and Hog, "Watching TV with your Parents - Foil Arms and Hog"
